Along with the Fender Rhodes, the Wurlitzer electric piano has been one of the most recorded keyboards since its introduction in the mid 1950’s. Although originally designed to be used in classroom settings (detailed history here), musicians such as Ray Charles and Spooner Oldham soon popularized the sound of the Wurlitzer and it’s been a studio stable for decades.
